Phu Kheao Wildlife Sanctuary

Phu Kheao Wildlife Sanctuary

  • Phu Kheao is located in Chaiyaphum Province along the Petchaboon range. It was announced wildlife reserve in 1972, the same year as was Nam Nao National Park. The land is physically dispersed with hill evergreen, dry dipterocarp, mixed deciduous forests and a vast savanna forest called “Thung Kamang”, and is home of prolific wildlife. Sighting of over 200 bird species is recorded in Phu Kheao including the endangered White-winged Woodduck and Oriental Darter.

             Attractive birds include:

  • Brown Hornbill, Common Frame-backed Woodpecker, Greater Yellow-naped Woodpecker, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Blue Magpie, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrush, Large Scimmitar-Babbler, Orange-breasted Trogon, Blue-winged Leafbird, White-breasted Waterhen, Common Moorhen, Spot-billed Pelican, Red-rumped Swallow, Ashy Wood-swallow, Crested Treeswift, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Long-tailed Broadbill, Blue-throated Barbet, Green Magpie.
