Established in 1972 as Thailands fifth national park, Nam Nao encloses an area of 966 square kilometers, partly of which adjoins with the Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary. Tropical evergreen, dry dipterocarp and pine forests cover the mountainous range of the parks territory. The parks highest peak rises to 1270 meters. Climate is pleasant all year round. The park is conveniently accessible through a highway. Nam Nao offers several trails, which are favored by birders. Among 250 reported bird species are 10 species of woodpecker.
