Nam Nao National Park

Nam Nao National Park

  • Established in 1972 as Thailand’s fifth national park, Nam Nao encloses an area of 966 square kilometers, partly of which adjoins with the Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary. Tropical evergreen, dry dipterocarp and pine forests cover the mountainous range of the park’s territory. The park’s highest peak rises to 1270 meters. Climate is pleasant all year round. The park is conveniently accessible through a highway. Nam Nao offers several trails, which are favored by birders. Among 250 reported bird species are 10 species of woodpecker.

         Attractive birds include;

  • White-bellied Woodpecker,Great Slaty Woodpecker, Lesser Yellow-naped Woodpecker, Greater Yellow-naped Woodpecker, Rufous Woodpecker, Bay Woodpecker, Grey-capped Woodpecker, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Laced Woodpecker, Black-headed Woodpecker, Eurasian Jay, Small Minivet, Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch, Golden-fronted Leafbird, Hill Myna, Collared Falconet, White-crested Laughingthrush, Sooty-headed Bulbul, Grey-headed Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied Warbler, Blue Magpie, Large Scimitar-Babbler, Bronzed Drongo, Pin-tailed Parrotfinch
