Bio-Diversity

The country is an important area for its local and a wide variety of migrant birds from Northern Eurasia. Birds are abundant with some 955 species already observed, the number of which exceed all of those found in Europe or North America. Sighting of more species is still expected. Most of the birds found here are the shared species and subspecies residing in Thailand and in the plains of Myanmar to the west, the Indochina in the east and Malaysia in the Southern peninsula.

The majority of birds are found in forested national parks or sanctuaries where they are still fertile enough to support a number of woodpeckers and hornbills. Small birds like jungle babblers, sunbirds, flycatchers and flower-peckers are also abound and challenging the birders. Forest of secondary growth, grassland, lowland water swamp, wetland and coastal areas also support a great variety of interesting open-country and water birds.

The ease of access to the parks and other outstanding birding sites through excellent road network and good public transport make Thailand one of the pre-eminent destinations in Asia for the birders from every corner of the world.
